 EXERCISES

"VOCALEASIES" are easy-to-do exercises which can be done anywhere, without a CD, tape or keyboard to accompany you.

I can show you exercises to safely warm up, exercises to help with a crack or break (if you have one or more), exercises for strength, endurance and range (how high and low you can sing). These can be done safely, without strain, and can attain results that you might have thought were impossible.

We can do exercises for breathing, for more lung capacity, and for breath control, so that you have plenty of air, and know how to use it for the best sound.

There are hundreds of exercises which can help keep you moving and progressing.  How far do you want to go in your singing?

We also can work on your musicicanship--how well you sing in tune, how well you sing intervals, and also can help you to hear pitch in some new ways and from several perspectives at once. We can even cover things like melodic intervals, harmonic intervals, chord progressions, harmonizing, harmonic technique, music theory (I had Paul Whear, a composer, in college and he was brilliant), as well as arranging, and orchestration techniques. Can you sight-sing? I can help with that, also.

One way to warm up your voice is to hold out the sound of the letter "Z" and slide up and down in pitch on that. This is one continuous Z, not multiple Zs. Start softly at first, gradually increasing your loudness little by little. Don't do this so loudly or so long that your voice gets tired. There are several other warmups to learn in lessons but this one can help in the meantime. Warmups and exercises done correctly will not hurt or strain your voice. There are two more variarions on this warmup and several note patterns on which to do it.

Exercises and years of experience (of having solved such problems) can save you the frustration of not having the skill to sing at your true potential.
