SINGING SOFTWARE
The software doesn't really sing. That is a misnomer. There are programs around for singers which
have features that allow a singer to look at a the computer monitor and "see" if they are sharp or flat. A simple
electronic guitar tuner can even do the same task.
You don't want to rely on a meter for your pitch any more
than you want to rely on an electronic pitch corrector for your performance. More than likely, your pitch meter isn't going
to be at your performance and you won't be able to correct your pitch in time. The music keeps going and you can't stop it
when singing live. Well, you can stop it but people probably won't out up with much of that. You really want to do "ear
training". This doesn't mean you will do tricks with your ears, like wiggle them. It means that you will actually use
your mind or your "mind's ear" to keep you on pitch and with your music. You want it to be SO good, that you don't
even have to think about it and it becomes naturally automatic.
Let's not forget that even though computers are
wonderful and they can speed up certain activities and make things easier to do such as arranging, scoring, and even writing
(more specifically-notating)music.
Singing is an art. As I said before, singing is a hearing art. There have
been thousands of excellent singers throughout time before computers were around. Some things may help, some may be a "crutch",
and some things are completely useless and a waste of time.
A good singing teacher can help improve interval concept
in a few minutes with some simple exercises. Great jazz musicians can virtually play these same little four note drills in
their sleep.
